Book Blogger Confessions: Bloggers Who Don't Comment Back

Before I proceed with today's post, I just want to mention that Matt Bomer Monday will now be on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month. This will allow me to participate in Book Blogger Confessions, or any other Monday meme I feel like participating during the 1st and 3rd Monday of the month. And now, for today's post...

This is my first time participating in this meme! I don't know if I will be participating every time but I thought I'd start participating now. This meme was originated by bloggers from Tiger's All Consuming Media and For What It's Worth. This meme occurs every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month to allow bloggers to vent, share an opinion, or offer a solution to a common problem.

Today's topic is:

Blogger relations: Are there blogs you visit and comment on because you like their style, voice etc.(maybe you even converse with the blogger on Twitter & Facebook) but those comments are never reciprocated on your blog?. Do you get a bit offended or do you understand that they may be busy? Or do you comment just because you like a post not expecting anything in return?

My Opinion:
I used to comment on someone's blog because I thought we were good blogger friends. The blogger would reply to my comments on her blog, but only stopped by once or twice on my blog. Eventually, we drifted apart and I stopped commenting. Now, I only visit if she has a post that is really interesting to me. With bloggers like these, I don't take it personally. I just drift apart from them and develop new relationships with bloggers that reciprocates the gesture.

For example, my FAVORITE blogger is Jen from Jen Ryland/YA Romantics. She replies to my comments on her blogs, and visits my blog when she has time. Even if the comment she leaves are short or just to give her affirmation on the topic I posted for that day, I appreciate it.

Another blogger I love is also named Jen from Some Like It Paranormal. She's super opinionated and leaves LONG comments, which I absolutely love. I truly enjoy having a conversation with her on my blog (and Twitter) and throwing opinions back and forth without fear of upsetting each other in any way. I don't visit her blog as often as I probably should, though. Maybe I should make a habit of it from now on.

What's your take on this topic? Leave them in the comments below!

  1. awww thanks for mentioning me!!! I was just thinking that I don't comment enough on your blog! LOL I know life gets busy. I have had no good commenting time all week! I love leaving lots of comments and yes I have lots to say so before I know it my comment is this huge chunk that stands out. I feel like I need to match my long ass last name :-D

    1. I'm attempting to read 50 Shades of Grey. I am on deadline so I haven't gotten back to it since I finished reading chapter 2. The writing annoys me so I'm in no hurry to finish reading it.

As for your comments, I love that it stands out like a big chunk :D

  2. Thanks so much for mentioning me too. Jen M is SO much better at I am at responding to every comment and always visiting back. I have days where I am a fiend leaving comments and then other days when I can barely read the comments on my own blog.

I guess we all just do the best we can :)

    1. Yeah, the effort is appreciated when both of you do visit... Some don't visit at all.

I seem to also have a lot of silent readers... I guess we just take what we get and be happy with it.

  3. I love your response to this question - it's OK to drift apart from people in life, it's what happens. The best bit is finding the new people to fill the gap.

And Jen M is a great commenter - she almost always comments on my book haul post even though we don't have a lot of books in common ;)

    1. Some people stay, some people don't. If I take everything to heart, I'd be so depressed right now. I learned to not be attached to anyone so much that it would hurt too much when they leave.

  4. Great response to the comment question. I would love comments but it doesn't happen. I agree comments between friends do change or none. There is nothing I can do about :)

    1. I think the post title also has something to do with it. When I'm busy but I still want to check my dashboard, I look for interesting titles that I could possibly respond to.

    2. Yes post titles do help or books I haven't read. also I try not to spoil myself with books that I want to read, so not reading those reviews :)

    3. I like commenting on books I already read esp when the blogger also enjoyed the book like I did :)

  5. *waves hi* I'm glad you joined in today!

Jen is an awesome blogger and commenter!

I love to leave comments. Life has gotten in the way recently so I just can't get to as many blogs anymore and I feel like that's the case for everyone these days so i'm not offended when I don't get tons of comments.

There have been many blogs that I used to comment on every single post but then it just drifted off - may because of style changes, or them not interacting. It happens and there are so many blogs to chose from these days.

    1. Hi Karen!! I'm glad I joined, too!

For me, I only have the two Jens that I regularly comment on. The rest? I just comment when I feel like it. I follow so many people, so I find the interesting topics/titles and I comment there. Either that or I comment on memes when I'm in the mood.

As for people being busy, I noticed this fall is the crazy time when people are taking hiatus or shutting down their blogs. I hope my favorite Jens will stay a while :)

  6. Glad you joined in today too. I enjoyed reading your response. It's too bad you and your friend drifted apart, but there are a ton of other awesome bloggers out there. I've made amazing pals with many and I'm grateful. I love long comments too and wish I could be smart enough or have enough to say to leave long comments as well.

    1. I feel the same way! I want to leave long comments but I just don't have that strong of an opinion. I also have a short attention span. I mostly scan posts rather than reading it word for word.

  7. LOVE it!! This has seriously been on my mind and "drifting" sounds sad and I know I'm totally at fault. I do exactly what you described - comment on comments, but not always get to visiting much. I keep thinking more time will appear out of nowhere and it never does.

There's some blogs I have quit reading and commenting 'cause they never respond in any way at all. It's like... like... shaking an inert body. "IS ANYONE THERE?!"

I wish - I hope I can figure out how to Twitter. I'm soooooo lame-o on Twitter, it's embarrassing. I over-think everything waaaaay too much. But what you describe sounds FUN!!!

  8. I wish I had the time to comment on all the posts. I try. I miss some of my great commentors in the early days. But tastes change and we drift onto new things. I do wish I knew where she was at now. :(
