Blogger Envy: Do you have a bad case of blogger envy? Do you covet thy neighbor bloggers book hauls/follower numbers/blog design? How do you tamp down the green eyed monster?
My Answer:
I used to have a not-so-bad case of blogger envy when I was just starting out with blogging and learning how to design my blog to fit my personality. There were quite a few blogger designs that I was envious of and wished that I was smart enough to figure out how to edit the pre-made templates out there. Eventually, I figured out how to do it. Now, I'm totally in love with my current design. When I get bored, I like to change it up, but I'm pretty sure I'll keep the one I have now for a while. The design that I liked for a while now is Ren's design on her blog Ren's Rambles. She designed it herself, and something about it just appeals to me. I was thinking maybe it's the dotted lines on the sidebar or the cute stamp-looking meme images she has :)
As for blogger hauls, I used to be quite envious when I see bloggers receiving so many good books or ARCs from publishers. I thought it was so cool and they must be very important bloggers. Eventually, I got over it. The pressure and obligation of reading those books on a deadline was just too much for me. Now, I just sign up on blog tours and get the books in e-format.
Finally, there are many bloggers out there who have a lot of followers. When I was starting out, this was also one of my concerns. However, after a while, I decided that follower numbers are not important to me. What's important is the follower interaction that I get on my blog. What's the point of having hundreds and thousands of followers if the comments you get are one or two for each post? I don't need follower numbers since I'm not one of those bloggers who requests books from publishers. That said, I'm happy with the numbers I have.
Do YOU have blogger envy? Let me know in the comments!

Wow, that is impressive that you figured out how to design your blog. I hired someone...I just could not figure it all out. You are absolutely right about the comments vs. follower numbers.
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't design my blog. it is a pre-made template from btemplates.com... What I meant was, I figured out how to use the templates haha :)
DeleteYeah, that is really impressive too!
Deletethank u! I was proud of myself when I figured it out... Whew, took me a year!
DeleteI think we all focused on followers in the beginning. At some point, that stops being an issue for many of us and we remember why we started blogging in the first place!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely agree :D
DeleteComments are definitely the hardest for me to get on my posts. I try not to be too jealous over other blogs who don't suffer the same issue. I am trying to keep a better mindset similar to yours.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting because most of the bloggers that get so much comments don't even reply to the comments.
DeleteAww... *gives you great big hug* I completely agree with you on the book hauls & follower numbers. I think we all get to a point eventually when we realize that we're happy with our blog & the followers we have & that a number isn't why we started blogging. And yeah, those review copies come with a lot of pressure! I don't know how some bloggers do it. And for the record, I still get design envy sometimes myself when I see something cool on someone's blog that I have no clue how to do. Great post!
ReplyDeleteI guess we will always have blogger envy no matter if we already love what we have.
DeleteProbably. I guess it's like that saying, "The grass is always greener on the other side".
DeleteUgh, imagine if you had 3000 followers and no commentors? That would be horrible! I love your attitude, it's definitely quality over quantity that counts!
ReplyDeleteYep!! That would make me very sad... I'm almost at 300 and I barely get comments unless I do memes like this.
DeleteI don't even look at my stats anymore unless I need to update my Netgalley profile.
ReplyDeleteI'm blogging for myself and like you said, it's the interactions and friendships that make book blogging so much fun.
Followers are just numbers to me now, although sometimes I still look at it and rejoice at the number... But the most important is the comments that I get and the interaction with the readers :D
DeleteI am still trying to figure out how to handle the templates hahaha. I love how you can meet different and unique people through all types of blogs being lifestyle, books or beauty. you learn every day new stuff through this.
ReplyDeleteif u need help, just let me know!
Deletethank you! i will :)
DeleteI used to worry about followers, but pretty quickly didn't really think about it too much. I do admit to suffering from comment envy, which is a good nudge for me to leave comments for other people (and take some time this month and figure out how to get Blogger to make the comment-back thingie work on my blog!!)
ReplyDeletethere's a button in the bottom right of the comment box that says "subscribe by email" if u want to get the replies sent to your email :) you can unsubscribe later when you don't want to receive them anymore. you have to click that button for every blog post u want to subscribe to... it could get very hectic.
Deletethanks for sharing..
